
P-Bruins Defeat Pirates 4-0

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates 4-0 Saturday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Pascal Pelletier, T.J. Trevelyan, Chris Collins and Nate Thompson. Tuukka Rask earned his second shutout of the playoffs stopping all 28 shots he faced. With the victory the P-Bruins lead the best-of-seven Atlantic Division Finals 1 game to 0. The P-Bruins face the Portland Pirates in Game 2 of the Division Finals Sunday at The Dunk at 4:05 p.m.
The P-Bruins took the 1-0 advantage at the 14:57 mark of the opening period. Matt Lashoff stole the puck in the neutral zone and flipped it up ahead to Pelletier. He skated into the Pirates zone and took a shot from the slot, putting the puck into the upper corner of the net, for his fourth goal of the post-season. Providence led 1-0 going into the first intermission.
In the second period, The P-Bruins took a 2-0 lead at the 6:25 mark. Matt Hunwick passed the puck behind his own net to Sean Curry, who sent it up the boards to Trevelyan. From the right face off circle, he took a shot that went past Pirates net minder Mike McKenna and into the net for his second goal of the playoffs. Providence went ahead 3-0 at the 14:19 mark. Jeff Hoggan had the puck along the left boards and sent it to the point for Lashoff. He took a shot and the puck was redirected into the net by Collins for his first goal of the post-season. The P-Bruins went into the second intermission with a 3-0 lead.
In third period, the P-Bruins added an insurance goal at the 6:56 mark. Collins stole the puck behind the Pirates net and passed it just outside the crease to Thompson. He scored his first goal of the playoffs, giving the P-Bruins a 4-0 lead. Providence went on to the 4-0 victory.
McKenna made 36 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins went 0-for-10 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
