The Cleveland Indians announced today the signing of LHP Jason Stanford to a minor league contract. The Bisons Modern Era leader with 293 strikeouts will be assigned to Buffalo when he reports on Friday.

Stanford is also expected to start for the Bisons on FRIDAY as they close out their four-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees from PNC Field.

Stanford, 31, will be with Buffalo for a Modern Era record eighth consecutive season. In 73 career games with the Bisons, the southpaw is 25-12 with a 3.54ERA (381.0IP, 355H, 168R, 150ER, 112BB, 293K). Stanford also ranks 3rd in the Modern Era in innings pitched (381.0), 4th in starts (63) and 5th in wins (25). He made his Triple-A debut with a spot start with the Bisons in 2001 (CG 3-hit shutout) and went 3-1 with a 2.78ERA in six games in 2002. His best season in Buffalo came in 2003 when he went 10-4 with a 3.43ERA in 20 starts with the team. Stanford pitched in just one game in 2004 and four games in 2005 as he recovered from Tommy John Surgery.
