Kitchener Rangers News Release

As part of Toyota Fan Fest, the top prize for professional hockey in North America will be on display for three days during the 2008 MasterCard Memorial Cup. The Stanley Cup will be on display in the Jack Link's Neutral Zone (dates to be confirmed by the NHL shortly) - as part of a travelling exhibit from the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. The exhibit will also feature artifacts, photos and CHL memorabilia - including the Memorial Cup [on display at various times throughout the week].

In addition to the hockey silverware and memorabilia, the Jack Link's Neutral Zone will feature interactive games including a "Cup" shoot and games featuring Wii technology. As well, there will be face-painting and magic for the younger fans.

The MasterCard Memorial Cup Host Committee is excited to have Kitchener artist Timothy Schmalz take up residence in the Jack Link's Neutral Zone during the week-long tournament. Schmalz - who sculpted the Firefighters Memorial in Kitchener near the Centre-In-The-Square and the Veterans Memorial in Waterloo across from Wilfrid Laurier University - will create a special sculpture, referred to as the National Hockey Monument featuring a maple leaf and a multitude of hockey images.

During the 2008 MasterCard Memorial Cup, Rogers TV Daytime will broadcast live from 11 am to 12 noon from the Jack Link's Neutral Zone, and Kitchener Rangers colour commentator Gary Doyle will also transmit his live afternoon show on 570 News.

The Jack Link's Neutral Zone, a part of Toyota Fan Fest, is free and open to hockey fans of all ages. It will open daily from 9 am until game-time. On Saturday, May 17th, the Jack Link's Neutral Zone will also be open after the game for 2 hours (6:30 - 8:30) until the fireworks display scheduled for dusk (approximately 9 pm)
