Kane County Cougars News Release

LANSING, Mich. - For the first time in a road game this season the Kane County Cougars were unable to bounce back when the opposition scored first, as the Cougars dropped the finale of a three-game series, 10-4, against the Lansing Lugnuts on Saturday afternoon at Oldsmobile Park. The Cougars, who are now 9-1 on the road this year, won the series but saw their winning streak end at four games.

The Lugnuts scored three times through two innings against starter Scott Hodsdon (0-2), who gave up seven hits in those frames. The Cougars appeared to be headed for a comeback, though, as they scored in the fourth against reliever Chi-Hung Cheng (2-0) on Todd Johnson's RBI single and Hodsdon struck out his first two batters in the bottom half. But Lansing then saw eight straight batters reach base thanks to five hits, a walk and two Cougars errors. Hodsdon was replaced by Scott Deal during the Lugnuts' rally, and it was a 9-1 game by the end of the inning.

Hodsdon gave up seven runs -- four runs -- on 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings, walking none and fanning three in his second loss of the year. The Cougars managed two unearned runs in the fifth and a Corey Brown RBI triple in the ninth for the rest of their scoring, and Lansing's final run came off Deal in the sixth for the 10-4 final.

The Cougars (14-2) are off Sunday and back in action Monday night at 6:05 CT against the Great Lakes Loons, as their six-game road trip through Michigan continues. Craig Italiano (1-0, 1.93) will face Bryan Morris (0-1, 5.17).
