
Beavers foiled by Sandova, seven-run third inning

SALT LAKE CITY - Freddy Sandoval was 5-for-5 with four RBIs, and the Salt Lake Bees pulled away from the Portland Beavers with a seven-run third inning in a 13-6 victory Sunday afternoon at Franklin Covey Field.
Luis Rodriguez had four hits for the Beavers (4-6), who matched their season high by out-hitting the Bees 17-14. All nine batters had at least one hit for the Beavers, who have lost five of their last six games.
Matt Antonelli hit his second home run of the year, giving Portland a brief 2-1 lead with his two-run shot off starter Nick Green in the top of the third.
Despite allowing 12 hits over seven innings, Green (1-0) limited Portland to three runs and struck out six for his win of the year.
The Bees (10-1) sent 12 batters to the plate in the third inning, getting a sac fly from Terry Evans to tie the game. The rest of their runs came with two outs, including an RBI double by Matt Brown, a two-run single by Adam Pavkovich, an RBI single by Ryan Budde, Pavkovich's steal of home, and a run-scoring single from Sandoval.
Arturo Lopez lasted just 2 2/3 innings in his second loss of the season, yielding eight runs, six hits and six walks to the Bees.
Sandoval had an RBI single as part of a three-run fifth, and his two-out, two-run double upped Salt Lake's lead to 13-3 in the sixth.
The Bees' victory was aided by a season-high three errors from the Beavers.
The Beavers conclude their series with Salt Lake Monday at 11:05 a.m. (Pacific).
NOTES: The Beavers have lost seven of their last eight games at Franklin Covey Field ... Portland has allowed 10 or more hits in each of its last five games and has given up 33 runs in three games during the current series with Salt Lake ... the Beavers stranded 10 base runners, while the Bees left 11 on ... Rodriguez extended his hitting streak to seven games and is batting .577 ... six different players had multi-hit days for the Beavers ... at 3:08, Sunday's game was Portland's longest of the season ... the Beavers will travel to Colorado Springs following Monday's game with Salt Lake.
