ALBANY, NY - Tim Conboy scored his second goal of the season with 50 seconds left in regulation to lift the Albany River Rats to a 2-1 win over the Norfolk Admirals Wednesday night at the Times Union Center.

The River Rats came out with energy as they were playing their first home game since March 19th. Rookie forward Nicholas Blanchard struck first for Albany and he drove hard to the net and knocked in a pass from Kiel McLeod and Mike Angelidis at 7:21. The goal was Blanchard's tenth of the season and he increased his goal-scoring streak to a new 2007-08 Albany season-high four straight games. Goaltender Justin Peters got the nod in goal for the River Rats and he looked sharp in the first period, stopping all six shots he faced.

The Admirals struck back late in the second period when Brandon Segal swooped in on a rebound in the low slot and slapped home his 12th goal of the season at 17:50, assisted by Vladimir Mihalek and Blair Jones. Norfolk goaltender Marc Denis was very solid at the other end of the ice, stopping 19-of-20 shots through the first two periods.

Both teams had opportunities to score the go-ahead goal early in the third period. Left wing Mike Angelidis raced in on a shorthanded breakaway, but lifted his shot over the cross bar. Defenseman Jay Rosehill was impeded by Joey Mormina on his breakaway effort and referee Chris Brown award Rosehill a penalty shot. But the Admirals' blue-liner was denied by Peters, who also saw the shot go high of the net. With time winding down it appeared that the game was headed towards overtime until a Carolina Hurricanes reinforcement stepped up. Playing in his first Albany and AHL game since February 13th, defenseman Tim Conboy unleashed a blistering slap shot from the blue line that blazed into the top right corner of the net at 19:10, his second goal of the season, giving Albany the 2-1 win. The two-point victory sealed up the third place position in the East Division for the River Rats as they head towards the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs that begin next week.

Goaltender Justin Peters improved to 7-2-0-0 on the season by making 23 saves on 24 shots in his tenth game of the season, boosting Albany's record to 43-28-3-4. Marc Denis stopped 24-of-26 shots in goal for Norfolk as they Admirals dropped to 27-44-2-5 on the year. Albany finished the game 0-for-6 on the power play, but held Norfolk to 0-for-5 on their power plays.

Albany will played their final regular season home game on Friday, April 11th as they host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for a 7:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center. The River Rats will complete the 2007-08 regular season on Sunday, April 13th in Philadelphia for a 5:05 pm game against the Phantoms at the Wachovia Spectrum.
