Winston-Salem Warthogs Release 2008 Promotional Schedule

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem Warthogs, the Advanced Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, will close the gates to Ernie Shore Field in style with a promotion-packed 2008 schedule. After 53 years as the home of professional baseball in Winston-Salem, Ernie Shore Field will give way to a new downtown stadium scheduled to open in April of 2009.

The Warthogs will celebrate their final season at the historic ballpark with a promotional schedule including an array of unique entertainment acts, giveaways and daily promotions.

Warthogs fans will not want to miss the special entertainment acts in 2008 including the inflatable troop Zooperstars (August 9), Rally (May 3) and Principle Financial Group Fun Fest (May 9). The Warthogs are also proud to announce BarlowGirl as this year's talent for the Christian Concert Night on July 19.

Annual events such as "Bark in the Ballpark" (May 10), "Pink in the Park Night" (August 23) and "Wings and Swings" (August 9), a chicken wing tasting contest, will also be celebrated throughout the summer. Scout sleepovers at the ballpark will continue in 2008 with the Boy Scout campouts scheduled for May 9 and August 22 and the Girl Scouts campout on May 2.

Aside from being its final year to host Warthogs baseball, Ernie Shore Field will reach another milestone when the five-millionth fan enters through the turnstile at some point this season. The lucky fan will receive a full set of kitchen appliances and Warthogs memorabilia sponsored by Brown-Rogers-Dixson Company.

A celebratory final pitch ceremony will also be held to commemorate the season finale on August 28. All fans attending the final game at Ernie Shore Field will be allowed to throw a final pitch with souvenir baseballs courtesy of WilcoHess.

In addition to all of the special events and national acts visiting Ernie Shore Field this season, the Warthogs will continue the tradition of providing regularly scheduled nightly promotions to help fans enjoy the best entertainment value in the Triad even more.

2008 Nightly Promotions

Sunday - Family Fun Day sponsored by McDonald's - play catch on the field prior to the game, free autographs from select Warthogs players and ALL Junior Warthogs members receive free admittance.

Monday - Family Four Pack Night sponsored by Hanes Mall - four tickets, four drinks, four hot dogs and four entertainment vouchers for ONLY $25.

Tuesday - Salemtowne Senior Tuesdays - Baseball Bingo and seniors eat free sponsored by Salemtowne. Wednesday - Kids Day Special with Noon first pitch. Thursday - Thirsty Thursday sponsored by Foothills Brewery - discounted beverages every Thursday at the ballpark. Friday - Fireworks Friday - fireworks show following all Friday games.

The final Opening Day at Ernie Shore Field will be April 8 at 7 p.m. when the Warthogs welcome the Lynchburg Hillcats to Ernie Shore Field for a three-game series.
