Amerks Torched By Flames, Lose Sixth Straight

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans lost their sixth straight game tonight, being torched 4-1 by the Quad City Flames at The Blue Cross Arena. With the loss, Rochester falls to 12-30-2-3 and has now dropped 22 of its last 24 contests.

Four different players tallied goals for the Flames while Stefan Meyer provided the lone goal for the Amerks.

Curtis McElhinney made 19 saves in net for the Flames, while goaltender Adam Dennis registered 25 in the loss.

Quad City opened the game with a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Warren Peters and Grant Stevenson. For Stevenson, it was his fifth goal in two games against the Amerks which extends his point lead to 48 on the season. Stevenson scored four goals, including a natural hat trick, to defeat the Rochester 4-2 Sunday night in the first ever meeting between the two teams. Stevenson netted a power-play goal at 12:12 for a 2-0 lead. Peters opened the scoring at 5:29 of the first as he tapped the puck past Adam Dennis.

In the second period, Meyer cut the lead to 2-1 with a shot from the near post that beat Flames' goalie McElhinney. Dylan Hunter and Mark Mancari assisted on the power-play goal at 16:46.

Quad City pulled ahead to a 3-1 lead as Tomi Maki converted on his penalty shot opportunity after Dennis was accused of throwing his stick on his way to the bench as the Amerks attempted to put an extra attacker on the ice. The goal was Maki's fifth on the season.

Cam Cunning rounded out the scoring for the Flames, depositing his fifth goal this season into the unoccupied Amerks net to sweep the Amerks in the season series.

The Amerks will return to action on Friday, January 25th as they play host to the Lake Erie Monsters. The 7:35 p.m. North Division matchup will be the first game of a home-and-home series between the new rivals. The contest falls on the next installment of the Amerks' Friday Night Frenzies. Fans can enjoy live music from Johnny Bauer up until game time.
