Iowa Chops News Release

THE STARS TELESCOPE - A LOOK AHEAD

Tuesday, Jan. 15 Stars vs Toronto Marlies

Wells Fargo Arena 7:07 PM

Broadcasts: Jim Erickson online and on B2 Video at iowastarshockey.com and in arena on 104.7 FM.

The Stars take on the Marlies for the first of two games this season and the only one at Wells Fargo Arena. The Stars opened a seven-game home stand, the longest in franchise history, this past weekend and picked three of a possible four points. The Stars opened the weekend with a 3-2 overtime win over Milwaukee on Friday and then fell 3-2 in a shootout to Quad City on Saturday. The Marlies lead the North Division with 54 points and a record of 25-9-0-4, but have yet to win against a West Division opponent in five games. The Marlies are in the midst of an eight game road trip, seven versus West Division clubs, and have dropped the first three. This game is also significant because it will see the return of goalie Scott Clemmensen to his home city. Clemmensen is a native of Urbandale and played two seasons of junior hockey with the Des Moines Buccaneers. He has since gone on to play college hockey at Boston College and has played in parts of five NHL seasons with New Jersey and now Toronto. With the Marlies this season, Clemmensen is 11-16-0 with a 2.77 GAA. He also spent time on call-up to Maple Leafs and saw action in three games. Right Wing David Ling leads the Marlies in overall scoring and assists with 34 points and 26 assists. Center Kris Newberry paces the team with 13 goals. Defensemen Anton Stralman and Derrick Walser are Toronto's representatives to the AHL All-Star Game. All-time, the Stars have faced Toronto four times and are 2-1-1-0, 1-0-1-0 at Wells Fargo Arena. The two teams play in Toronto on March 1. This game ends a string of 18 in a row versus West Division teams for the Stars.

Friday & Saturday, Jan. 18 & 19 Stars vs. Rockford Ice Hogs

Wells Fargo Arena 7:07 p.m. CST (Both Games)

Broadcasts: Jim Erickson online and on B2 Video at iowastarshockey.com and in arena on 104.7 FM.

The Stars and Ice Hogs, who meet a total of eight times in 2007-08, play for just the second time this season. In the first ever game between the clubs on October 13 at Wells Fargo Arena, the Ice Hogs came away with a 7-3 victory. The Ice Hogs enter this week back in first place in the West Division after momentarily being knocked out of the top spot last week by Chicago. After the Wolves cooled off following their hot start, Rockford has put together one of their own, going 15-3-1-4 in their last 22 games. This stretch has also included a streak of 14 games without a regulation loss. All-Star center Martin St. Pierre leads the AHL with 40 assists and is second in overall scoring with 54 points. Troy Brouwer's 18 goals are tops on the team. Defenseman Cam Barker is set to join St. Pierre at the All Star Game in Binghamton, NY. The Stars are set to play their first game in Rockford on Saturday, January 26.
