Jorge Alvial Joins FC Dallas Coaching Staff

January 10, 2008 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - FC Dallas News Release

FRISCO, Texas (Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008) - FC Dallas Head Coach Steve Morrow announced today the addition of Jorge Alvial to his coaching staff. Alvial, who was working as the Chief Scout for Chelsea FC in North, Central, and South America until accepting the FCD position, will join Marco Ferruzzi as an assistant coach. Alvial will officially begin his new role this weekend when he meets Morrow and Ferruzzi in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. for the 2008 MLS Combine.

"We're delighted to add someone with Jorge's background and experience to our staff," Morrow said. "It's not everyday you can pry someone away from a club like Chelsea, or add someone as connected with the young players in this part of the world as Jorge is. We've had the pleasure to work with Jorge in the past, and we know he'll be a great addition to this team."

Born in Chile, Alvial brings many years of playing and coaching experience, both in the United States and abroad. He began his playing career as a goalkeeper in Chile with First Division side Deportes Iquique, which was followed by stints in the United States with the then-Washington Stars of the American Soccer League. After three years, he returned for a final season with Iquique, and one year playing in Peru with Sports Boys FC.

He began his coaching career in 1994 as the head coach of the Washington Mustangs of the United Soccer League's Second Division, and then in future years as the head coach of the Richmond Kickers, Jacksonville Cyclones, and Puerto Rico Islanders - all of the United Soccer League's First Division. In his native country, he has also worked as the head scout and assistant coach for Universidad Catolica.

Alvial's connection to FC Dallas began in 2002, when he helped organize the first of two preseason trips to Chile with his company Total Futbol, with which he also worked as a scout for both Universidad Catolica and Holland's PSV Eindhoven.

In May 2006, he became the Chief Scout in the Western Hemisphere for Chelsea FC of the English Premier League.
