Bruny Surin Now Part Owner Of The Montreal Royal

October 24, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Montreal Royal News Release

Montreal, Canada. Dr. Luc Filiatrault and Pascal Jobin are pleased to announce that Bruny Surin is now a minority shareholder of the ABA Montreal Royal basketball team. "Bruny's interest in the Royal and in basketball is wonderful news for our team and our fans," said Filiatrault and Jobin.

Bruny Surin is a well-known sports figure, but few people are aware that he got involved in basketball before becoming a world class sprinter. It is only at age 17 that he became attracted to track and field - first in the long jump and triple jump competitions and later in the 60 and 100 meters sprints.

Bruny Surin will be a tremendous asset for the Royal, both for his experience in high level competition and in the promotion of a basketball team. With the fast-rising interest for basketball in Montreal and Quebec, there is no doubt that the Royal will continue to develop as a major sport attraction.

The principal ownersof the team are Dr. Luc Filiatrault, a chiropractor and former basketbal player and Pascal Jobin, one of the first French Canadians to play NCAA basketball, winning a national championship with with Lowell Mass team in 1988. Several Canadian players, among which are young Quebecers, play for the Royal. The team plays at Centre Pierre-Charbonneau.
