Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING - The Lansing Lugnuts were able to stay red hot Wednesday night as they took their seventh consecutive decision by beating the Dayton Dragons 4-1 at Oldsmobile Park.

The Dragons and Lugnuts stayed scoreless through five innings before Lansing finally broke the tie in the sixth when Matt Lane blasted a solo homer to right field that gave the Lugnuts a 1-0 lead.

Ray Gonzalez (8-7) took over from there, as he dominated the game by throwing 7 2/3 innings and allowing just one run on five hits.

Lansing added insurance runs in the seventh to extend the lead to 3-0. Brian Pettway led the inning off with a double to right-center and later came home to score when Jonathan Diaz laid down a sacrifice bunt attempt that was then thrown into right field. Diaz would then be brought home on a Matt Liuzza single.

The two teams swapped runs in the eighth, and Edgar Estanga came on to close the game out for Lansing to pick up his fourth save.

The Lugnuts have now won 10 straight games at home as well, running their home record to 24-8 in the second half and 41-23 overall.

Lansing (74-60, 39-26) and Dayton (77-58, 32-33) will continue the series at Fifth Third Field Thursday night in Dayton, Ohio. Julio Pinto (3-4, 4.48) will hurl for Lansing, while southpaw Travis Webb (7-5, 3.51) will take the mound for the Dragons. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
