West Virginia's Power Too Much For Lexington

CHARLESTON, WV. - West Virginia used their power to knock off Lexington Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Power belted four home runs including two by Steve Chapman in route to a 12-5 win.
The two homers by Chapman give him 23 on the year, which sets a West Virginia/Charleston single season record. The loss puts the Legends on the brink of elimination. Lexington trails Hickory by 9.5 games with ten to play.
The Power scored first with a run in the first inning. Chuckie Caufield singled and scored on Brent Brewer's double.
Lexington got on the board in the third inning with two runs without the benefit of a hit. Jimmy Van Ostrand forced in the first run on a bases loaded walk. Koby Clemens' fielder's choice scored Ronnie Ramirez.
West Virginia regained the lead on Kenny Holmberg's three-run home run in the third inning. The Power began to pull away in the fourth. Brewer doubled in two more runs. Brent scored from second base on a sacrifice fly to right field to make it 7-2.
Steve Chapman's solo homer gave West Virginia an 8-2 lead in the sixth inning. Chapman belted a two run smash in the seventh. Andrew LaFave drilled a line drive two-run homer in the eighth inning.
The Legends ended the scoring in the top of the ninth inning with three runs. A passed ball allowed Nick Moresi to score from third base. Jimmy Van Ostrand singled in two more to finish the scoring at 12-5.
The Legends heads to Greensboro to play the Grasshoppers in a three game series starting Friday night at First Horizon Park. Game time is set for 7:05pm. Legends network coverage will begin at 6:50pm.
