
The Sports win 5-3

Derek Cunningham threw a complete game as the Shreveport Sports overcame a 3-0 deficit and downed the El Paso Diablos 5-3 on Tuesday night from Fairgrounds Field in Shreveport, LA.
El Paso scored an early run in the top of the first. The Diablos had three singles in a row to lead off the game. With the bases loaded and no outs, Juan Camacho bounced a grounder to second, Jack Joffrion retired Camacho at first but Albenis Machado crossed the dish for the 1-0 lead.
The Diablos plated two more in the top of the third. Matt Kent had an RBI double in the frame as El Paso took a 3-0 advantage.
The Shreveport Sports jumped on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. Deacon Burns smoked an RBI double to left-center field cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Sports made it a 3-2 contest in the bottom of the seventh. Deacon Burns picked up a sacrifice fly, for his second RBI of the game.
The Sports took the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Ned Darley came in for the six-out save. J.P Schmidt started the rally with a one-out single. Schmidt stole second base to get into scoring position. Justin Humphries walked one batter later. Tommy Bryant drove home Schmidt with an RBI single to left. Humphries advanced to second on the play. Ned Darley balked during the next at-bat against Austin Pride moving Humphries to third and Bryant to second. Pride made Darley pay for the miscue as he blasted a two-run double over the right fielder Jordan Belcher's head giving the Sports a 5-3 lead.
Derek Cunningham threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning capping off a complete game.
Cunningham (4-6) tossed nine innings allowing two earned runs off of eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
Mike Cervera threw five and two thirds innings giving up one earned run off of four hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
Ned Darley (3-6) takes the loss as he threw one inning allowing three earned runs off of three hits with no walks and no strikeouts.
The Diablos will close out their three game road series against Shreveport on Wednesday night at 6:05 PM (MST). Greg Wiltshire will match up against Colby Miller in the contest. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1380 AM as well as at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
