MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have agreed to a one-year contract with center David Meckler, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.
Meckler, 20, finished fifth in scoring with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League during the 2006-07 season with 73 points (38-35=73) and 53 penalty minutes in 67 games. The 6-foot, 184-pound native of Highland Park, Illinois, recorded 22 points (15-7=22) in 16 playoff games with the Knights before being eliminated in the OHL's Western Conference final by the Plymouth Whalers. Meckler played one year at Yale University and collected 10 points (7-3=10) and 28 penalty minutes in 31 games during the 2005-06 season. He is in the Bulldogs history books as he scored the shorthanded game-winner in the fifth overtime against Union College on March 4, 2006, in the first round of the 2005-06 ECACHL playoffs in what is the longest game in NCAA history.
Selected by the Kings in the fifth-round (134th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Meckler played two years with the Waterloo Black Hawks from 2003-05 and registered 62 points (39-23=62) and 75 penalty minutes in 116 career games. Meckler tied for the team's scoring leader during the 2004-05 season with 45 points (30-15=45) in 60 games. His 30 goals that year also led the team.
