Shorebirds Sweep Hickory

Charleston, WV- After Delmarva was swept at home by Hickory, the Shorebirds capped off a sweep of their own with a 7-2 victory over first half South Atlantic League northern division champion West Virginia at Appalachian Power Park Tuesday night.

Kyle Schmidt snapped a six game losing streak in as many games to pick up his first win since June 4th. Schmidt went six innings allowing two runs, one earned on five hits and had seven strikeouts. Bruce Galloway and Brent Allar combined to pitch the final three frames hold the Power hitless and scoreless.

Brandon Tripp was three for four with his 14th homerun and scored three times. Michael Pierce had two hits and three RBI including his fourth homer of the year. David Cash was two for three with two RBI and Paul Winterling had a pair of hits.

Delmarva outscored the SAL's top offensive team 27-11 in the four game sweep and held the leagues top hitter Andrew Lefave in check going only 2-15 in the series.

Delmarva heads for Greensboro to open up a four game series against the Grasshoppers who just completed a sweep of Lakewood. The Shorebirds send lefthander Wilfrido Perez (4-2, 1.72 ERA) to the hill for his second start of the year and the ‘Hoppers send Kyle Winters (4-1, 4.21 ERA). First pitch from First Horizon Park is set for 7pm.
