Gladiators Sign Defenseman Stamoulis

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have signed defenseman Dinos Stamoulis for the 2007-08 season.

Stamoulis completed his senior season at Providence College last year posting 6 points off of 2 goals and 4 assists in 36 games. The defenseman appeared in 142 career collegiate games with the Friars posting a career high 12 points during the 2004-05 season.

The Carle Place, N.Y. native appeared in 14 games last season with the Toledo Storm after completing his senior season at Providence College. Stamoulis collected a goal and 3 assists for 4 points while with Toledo and also appeared in three playoff games with the Storm.

Prior to attending Providence College, Stamoulis played two seasons for the Texas Tornado of the NAHL. He finished fourth on the team and first among defensemen with 54 points (14 goals, 40 assists) in 2002-03. Stamoulis captained the Tornado during the 2002-03 season and help guide the Tornado to consecutive NAHL Western Conference Championships.

The 6-foot, 195-pound defenseman also participated in the Atlanta Thrashers Prospect Development Camp held at the Ice Forum in Duluth from July 6th through July 12th.

Opening Day in the ECHL for the 20th Anniversary Season will be Oct. 18 when the Johnstown Chiefs host the Wheeling Nailers at Cambria County War Memorial in a rematch of Game 7 from the first-ever ECHL Finals.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier 'AA' Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that will have 25 teams in 17 states and British Columbia in 2007-08. The 25 teams includes the Mississippi (Biloxi) Sea Wolves, who return after missing two seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the expansion Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals.

The ECHL will play 900 games beginning Oct. 18 and concluding Apr. 5. The conference and division alignments and the format for the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be determined and approved at a later date by the ECHL Board of Governors.
