Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, an affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes and the San Antonio Rampage, have announced that defensemen Nick Toneys and Nathan Schwartzbauer have each agreed to terms on a contract for the 2007-08 ECHL season.

Toneys, 24, recorded one goal and 12 points in 60 games with the Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League in 2006-07, and added six assists in 20 postseason games. The Waupaca, Wis. native and second-year professional joined the Wings upon completion of his collegiate career at NCAA St. Norbert College at the end of 2005-06 season, and along with RoadRunners Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Church helped Kalamazoo capture the 2006 Colonial Cup.

Schwartzbauer, 25, begins his professional career following a four-year stint at NCAA Bemidji State University. A 6-foot-4, 215-pound native of Wasilla, Alaska, Schwartzbauer collected 17 assists and 102 penalty minutes in 126 career games with the Beavers, and was honored as a 2005 Academic All-Central Hockey Association member.

"Today's signings begin our commitment to becoming a stronger team defensively," said Church. "Nick is coming off a great rookie season in Kalamazoo where he was part of the regular core that took the Wings to Game Seven of this year's Colonial Cup Finals, while Nathan is a big body with good mobility for his size that competed against some of the best college players in the country for the last four years. We expect both to come in and be a couple of guys that opposing players won't like to play against.

The RoadRunners return to US Airways Center at 7:11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 when they host the Utah Grizzlies to commence their third season in the desert. Information on season tickets, half-season packages, and flex plans for the 2007-08 season of Phoenix RoadRunners Hockey are available by calling (602) 462-GOAL.
