June 13, 2007 - A six run fifth inning propelled the Beloit Snappers to a 7-2 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in game two of a doubleheader Wednesday night at Pohlman Field, and clinched a first half playoff spot.

The Kernels took an early 1-0 lead on P.J. Phillips fifth home run of the season in the third inning. Beloit used a combination of infield singles and doubles by Steven Singleton and Danny Valencia to tally the six-spot.

Kernels starter Sean O'Sullivan (4-4) allowed four runs on five hits over 4-1/3 innings to take the loss. Warner Madrigal allowed two runs on two hits in 2/3 innings and Felipe Arrendondo allowed an unearned run and two hits in one inning pitched.

Beloit starter Matthew Fox (4-0) held the Kernels to a run on five hits and struck out four to get the win.

The Kernels fall to 37-28 and must win all of their final four games to have any chance at a first half playoff bid. Beloit improves to 42-24 and leads Clinton by 1-1/2 games with four games remaining.

The final game of this six game series is Thursday night in Beloit as Jeremy Haynes (1-3) starts for the Kernels against Brian Kirwan (2-1) for Beloit.
