L-Kings Hang On For Win Against Lansing

LANSING- Omar Poveda was solid through six innings and the bullpen held on for the Clinton LumberKings in a 3-2 win over the Lansing Lugnuts Saturday night before 8,753 fans at Oldsmobile Park. It marks the fourth straight loss for the Lugnuts.

Poveda was spotted to a 3-0 lead through four innings. Leading 1-0 in the fourth, Clinton's K.C. Herren tripled into right-center field to bring home Mauro Gomez and extend the lead to 2-0. David Peterson's RBI single plated Herron to make it a 3-0 game.

Lansing mounted a two-run rally in the sixth to cut the lead to one. Jonathan Jaspe doubled home Yuber Rodriguez from first base to put the Lugnuts on the board at 3-1. After Scott Campbell reached base, Jonathan Diaz grounded into a double play that plated Jaspe to make it 3-2.

The Lugnuts threatened in the seventh and ninth innings, but could not bring home a run in either frame.

Poveda (3-0) picked up the win in six innings of work. He allowed just two runs on four hits while fanning five.

Jeremiah Haar got the save, recording the final two outs of the game.

Adrian Martin (0-1) suffered the loss for the Lugnuts, surrendering just one run in two innings of work in a spot start for Lansing.

Lansing (15-10) and Clinton (17-10) will continue the series on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Chase Lirette (3-1, 1.50) will take the ball for the Lugnuts, while lefty Zach Phillips (3-1, 3.47) will get the call for the LumberKings. First pitch is set for 2:05 p.m.

Before the game there will be an autograph session presented by the Lansing Board of Water & Light that will begin at 12:30 p.m. Sunday is also Meijer Kids Day, with Pepsi Kids Run the Bases to follow.
