Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NEB. - The Lincoln Saltdogs have completed a three-team deal with Nashua and Atlantic City that will bring former Kansas City Royal RHP Dan Reichert to the Capitol City. As a part of the trade, Lincoln sent LHP Brian Rodaway to Atlantic City where he will serve as a starter as well as the team's pitching coach.
Kansas City's first-round draft pick in 1997 (seventh overall), Reichert spent six years in the Royals' organization, including three seasons at the Major League level. The 6-3, 170-pound right-hander also made 15 appearances for Toronto in 2003. In all, Reichert pitched in 124 games (51 starts) in the majors from 1999-2003 and posted a 21-25 record with a 5.55 ERA. He has also pitched in all or parts of seven seasons at the Triple-A level.
In 2006, Reichert was 8-5 with a 3.86 ERA in 20 games with Nashua of the Can-Am League. He finished with 93 strikeouts in 121.1 innings in his second season in the independent ranks. The 30-year old Reichert is a native of Turlock, Calif., who played collegiately at the University of Pacific, now makes his home in Omaha.
In making the deal, the Saltdogs parted ways with Rodaway, who finished the 2006 season with an 8-3 record and a 3.53 ERA in 17 starts that included three complete games.
"It wasn't an easy decision to make the trade because Brian has done a great job for us and we appreciate how well he has represented the Saltdogs," said Lincoln General Manager Tim Utrup. "Atlantic City is going to be able to give him the opportunity to pitch as well as help him begin his career as a coach and for that reason we're glad we were able to get the deal worked out."
After two seasons with Lincoln, Rodaway set a franchise records with 254.0 innings pitched and 10 complete game performances. He is tied with Kyle Ruwe for first all-time with 16 career wins.
The Saltdogs begin the 2007 season on May 10 at Pensacola with the home opener set for May 22 against St. Joe. For team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
