Fort Worth Cats News Release
The Fort Worth Cats have signed designated hitter John Allen to a contract for the 2007 season.
Allen missed the entire 2006 season due to an injury he suffered in an exhibition game last year.
In 2005, Allen batted .330 with 11 homers and 84 runs batted in. He led the league and set a team record with 38 doubles. He played in all 94 regular-season games for the Cats including seven at first base and seven in the outfield.
After batting .356 over the season's final two months, Allen led the team with three homers and 12 RBIs during the Cats' 10-game playoff run.
In his rookie season, Allen joined the Cats in June 2004 and batted .319 with 16 doubles in 38 games.
Allen was an All-Southland Conference selection during both his junior and senior seasons at Lamar University in Beaumont. Batted .303 with six homers and 38 runs batted in as a senior.
He was an all-district football and baseball player at Garland High School.
