Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces announced today that center Olivier Filion will return to the club for a third straight season.

Filion, a native of Montreal entering his fourth professional campaign after four years in the QMJHL, has earned a reputation for scoring in the clutch during each of Alaska's two playoff runs after modest goal-scoring totals in the regular season. He buried the game-winner at 2:20 of overtime to even the 2006 West Division Finals against Las Vegas at one game apiece and scored three goals in the conference finals, including the game-winner in Game 2, again evening the series.

Filion established new career-highs in goals, assists, and points last year while playing in all 72 regular season games. His 50 assists tied for second on the club behind ECHL scoring champion Alex Leavitt. Filion, who will turn 24 a week before Alaska's preseason opener October 10 against Toledo, scored three goals in the 2005 Kelly Cup playoffs, including the overtime winner against Trenton in Game Four of the conference finals, a goal which tied that series at two games apiece. The 5-10, 195-pounder later was traded to Mississippi as part of the deal that brought goalie Matt Underhill to the Aces, but with the Sea Wolves having suspended operations for the last two seasons as a result of Hurricane Katrina, Filion has elected to sign with Alaska each year.

The Aces open the ECHL regular season at home, Friday, October 20, at 7:15 p.m. against the Victoria Salmon Kings. Alaska fans will get their first opportunity to see this year's team in a pair of pre-season games against the Toledo Storm October 10-11, with ticket pricing set at a special rate of only $10.
