Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC- The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with 23-year-old ECHL rookie Seamus (pron: Shay-mus) Young.
The 6'2", 205-lb Defenseman played nine games last season with the Trenton Titans (ECHL) and posted 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist). His goal was scored short-handed versus the Reading Royals on March 26, 2006, under the tutelage of now Salmon Kings head coach, Tony MacAulay.
"Seamus Young is an up and coming defenseman who has terrific skating and puck moving capabilities," said Tony MacAulay Salmon Kings Head Coach. "He has good vision, and adapted extremely fast to the pace and regiment of the ECHL in those few games with Trenton."
Prior to joining the Titans, the native of Dedham, Massachusetts spent four seasons (2002-2006) with the Princeton University Tigers (NCAA, Div 1). In 109 games with the Tigers, the 22-year-old tallied 47 points (8 goals, 39 assists), which earned him a number six spot among the Most Assists by a Defenseman in a Career, in Princeton's record books.
"We have added a young, skilled player who adds size to our defensive corps," said Dan Belisle, Vice-President of Hockey Operations and General Manager. "Seamus posted solid point numbers while earning a Princeton degree. We look forward to him bringing that type of dedication and determination to our team."
The Salmon Kings regular season begins on Friday October 20th in Anchorage, AK against the Aces. Their first home game at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre is on Wednesday October 25th against the Idaho Steelheads.
