Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - Apparently, the Amarillo Dillas are really patient hitters.
The Rio Grande Valley White Wings' pitchers gave up 11 walks to Dillas batters including four with the bases loaded and five in the ninth inning for a come-from-behind 11-10 Amarillo victory.
Dillas' reliever Lee Rodney (1-0) went two and two-thirds innings, gave up three hits and two runs but did get the win. White Wings' closer Ignacio Estrada (2-1) gave up three walks in the ninth including the final to Ericnardo Padilla to give the Dillas the win.
The Dillas wasted no time for the second straight night in scoring in the first. Padilla would single with one out and advance to second on a wild pitch. The shortstop would score on an RBI single by Danny Bravo. Bravo would also come across on a bases loaded walk to Justin Wenger for an early 2-0 Amarillo lead.
Rio Grande Valley's Jermy Acey hit a solo homerun in the third for a 2-1 score.
Amarillo's John-Paul Davis got the run back in the third with a two-out solo shot of his own. The 2-0 pitch was powered over the right-center field for his fourth round-tripper and extended the lead 3-1.
Unfortunately in the fourth, the White Wings score four runs off five hits for a 5-3 advantage. They would score twice more on a Sergio Cairo two-run homer in the fifth for a 7-3 score.
Amarillo would make a comeback in the sixth with five runs. The first was scored on a bases loaded walk to Marcus Lewis and three would score on a Carlos Figueroa bases loaded error by the White Wings' Acey. Bravo would single to score Figueroa and the inning would end tied 8-8.
Rodney came in for starter Josh Parker but gave up one run in the eighth for a 9-8 Rio Grande Valley lead.
In the bottom half of the same inning, Marcus Lewis singled with one out and stole second base. After a long reprieve, Figueroa would hit a double into center to score Lewis and tie the game at 9-9.
Rodney remained for the ninth but could not hold the tie. After walking Antoin Gray and a stolen base, Sam McLain would double with two outs to score Gray for a 10-9 White Wings' lead.
In the ninth, the Dillas put the bases loaded from walks by Clemente Doble and Ignacio Estrada. With the bases juiced, Lewis drew his fourth walk of the day to tie the game at 10-10. Padilla would come after and work the count full. On the first 3-2 pitch, the ball landed near Padilla's feet for another walk and the go ahead run to score to give Amarillo an 11-10 win.
With the victory, the Dillas improve to 37-43 on the season and remain just a half a game behind Laredo, who defeated San Angelo 7-5, for the final playoff spot. On Sunday, the Dillas will look for the sweep against these White Wings at 6:05 pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 5:50 pm on 1440 AM The Score. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
