LF Melky Cabrera hit a walk-off homer, his 4th of the season, propelling the Yankees to an 11th inning victory over the Seattle Mariners. Melky originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2001 and appeared here in Staten Island during the 2003 season.
1B Eric Duncan was 3-4 two nights ago with a homer and two RBI, leading the Trenton Thunder to another victory. Duncan, a 1st round pick in 2003, is hitting .269 with 6 homers since being demoted to Trenton last month.
RHP Erick Abreu is currently pitching with the Charleston Riverdogs and has been extremely effective in his first seven starts. He is currently 3-1 with a 2.63 ERA with 44 Ks in 41IP. Abreu, a 23 year old righty out of the Dominican Republic, was originally signed in 2003 and pitched in seven games during the 2004 campaign with the Staten Island Yankees.
2B Gabe Lopez is currently playing with the AA Trenton Thunder. Lopez, a very popular player from our 2002 championship team, was an Eastern League All-Star this season. He was the starting 2B for the North All-Stars and went 1-3 with a double and an RBI in the contest.
