ATLANTIC CITY _ Righthanded pitcher Mark Persails pitched the first no-hitter in the nine-year history of Bernie Robbins Stadium Wednessday as he shut out the Camden Riversharks 2-0. The no-hitter came in the first half of a doubleheader that featured two seven-inning games.
It was the second no hitter hurled by the Surf staff this season as Lincoln Mikkelsen pitched a no-hitter at Lancaster on June 16 of this season. It was also the fourth no hitter in Atlantic League history. Persails faced 22 batters and issued one walk while striking out eight on his way to his fifth victory against two losses.
"It was a nice feeling to do this at home before the home fans,'' said Persails, who was mobbed by his teammates after the game. Persails earlier was one of seven Surf players named to the South All Star squad for the ALPB All Star Game slated for July 12 in Bridgeport. Demetrius Heath and Raul Marval eacn had an RBI for Atlantic City in the game one victory.
Camden defeated the Surf 5-1 in the second game of the doubleheader as the Riversharks scored four runs in the fourth inning behind a two-RBI double from Pedro Swann off Gary Bell. Lino Connell also had two RBIs for the Rifversharks in game two.
Brandon Davis picked up the win for the Riversharks in the second game; Atlantic City's Rob Corrado took the loss.
With the split Atlantic City is 32-27; Camden is 26-35.
