Curve end road trip with win, defeat Aeros 5-3

AKRON, OH- The Altoona Curve defeated the Akron Aeros on Monday night at Canal Park 5-3 behind another strong outing by starter Shane Youman (pictured). The Curve wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard, plating three runs in their first at-bat. Altoona finished its seven-game road trip 4-3.

The Curve would add two more runs in the fifth inning and hang on for the victory, after a couple late scores by Akron.

Youman allowed one run on a solo homerun by Ryan Goleski on six hits in six innings for his fifth win of the year.

Eight of the nine batters in the Curve lineup recorded at least one hit, with four players collecting multi-hit games.

Akron starter Adam Miller was pounded for five runs on ten hits in five innings pitched and was tagged with his fifth loss of the season.

Altoona loaded the bases with one out in the first inning and Ray Sadler belted a bases clearing three-run double to give the Curve an early advantage.

Jorge Vasquez came on in relief in the eighth inning and struck out the final two batters of the frame with the potential tying run at first base. The right-hander picked up his fifth save of the year after allowing just one hit in 1 2-3 innings.

The Curve return home for a seven-game series beginning on Tuesday against the Bowie Baysox at 7:05 p.m. Landon Jacobsen will start for the Curve against a yet-to-be-named pitcher for the Baysox.

A spectacular fireworks show follows the game and the Curve will celebrate Hometowns of Cresson Night.
