The Portland Sea Dogs drop their first series of the season at Hadlock Field, suffering a 4-1 loss to New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon.
David Purcey (2-0) worked five innings on four hits and one run to earn the win for New Hampshire. Jon Searles gave up four runs in the sixth inning on three hits, taking his third loss of the season.
Tracy Thorpe pitched a perfect ninth to earn his fourth save of the season. The Fisher Cats' bullpen hurled four scoreless innings on three hits and two strikeouts.
Portland scored the game's first run when Tyler Minges delivered an RBI single in the first inning. Bryan Pritz started the rally with a double and moved to third on an error by the rightfielder David Smith.
New Hampshire scored their four runs on Adam Lind's RBI single, a two-run double by Chip Cannon and John Schneider's sacrifice fly.
Frank Brooks made the start for Portland, retiring 15 of 18 batters faced. Brooks allowed a fourth inning double to David Smith.
Notes...New Hampshire's pitchers didn't issue a walk...Chad Spann finished 2-for-4...hitters 7-8-9 for the Sea Dogs went 0-for-10.
