PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers today announced that Manny Alexander has been transferred to the team from extended spring training and that Ricky Gutierrez has been released by the San Diego Padres, the team's major league affiliate.

Alexander, a veteran of 17 professional seasons, batted .250 (4-for-16) with two doubles and an RBI in four games with the Beavers at the end of the 2005 season. With the Padres in 2005, Alexander batted .111 (2-for-18) in 10 games after having his contract purchased. The 35-year-old has played all or parts of 10 seasons in the major leagues with Baltimore, New York (NL), Chicago (NL), Boston, Texas and San Diego.

Alexander originally signed with the Orioles as a non-drafted free agent in 1988. He joined the Padres organization on Aug. 31, 2005, in a trade that sent RHP Juan Jimenez to the Texas Rangers.
