Carmichael named SPHL MVP

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Huntsville Havoc goaltender Matt Carmichael has been named MVP of the Southern Professional Hockey League by the league's seven coaches.
The Ottawa, Ontario native led the league in goals against average at 2.75 and in save percentage with a 91.9 mark. He finished tied for third in wins with 23, despite missing four weeks and 14 games with an injured groin. The Havoc went 6-8 without him.
"This is definitely a tremendous honor," Carmichael said. "The guys played great in front of me all season, so this award is for them more than it is for me. It's been a good season but we still have work to do to reach our goal."
When he returned from injured reserve he quickly won four straight games and was the Sher-wood SPHL Player of the Week. He also played in two games for the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL during the season and went 1-1 with a 3.00 goals against average.
"Matt deserves all the accolades that come his way," Havoc head coach John Gibson said. "He comes to play night in and night out. We, as a team and an organization, couldn't be more proud of him."
Carmichael is in his ninth season of professional hockey and has played in 251 career games and posted a 135-95-10 record.
