Mechanics sign local goaltender

FRASER, MI- The Motor City Mechanics, proud members of the United Hockey League (UHL) are pleased to announce the signing of a local Michigan goaltender, Bill Ruggiero.

Ruggiero, 24, a Harper Woods native is the brother of the United States Women's National Hockey teams star defensive player, Angela Ruggiero. Last season while Bill Ruggiero was playing in the CHL with the Tulsa Oilers, the two made history when they became the first brother and sister to play in a professional game.

Although still a rookie by UHL rules, Ruggiero has played in 49 professional games including 47 last season in Tulsa. In those games Ruggiero went 27-15-2 with a 3.16 Goals against Average (G.A.A.) and a .914 save percentage (SV %).

In 1999-00 Ruggiero played in 10 games with the Plymouth Whalers, posting an impressive 6-2-0 record and a minute 1.95 G.A.A. and .910 SV%.

That brings the total number of players under contract for the 2005-06 season to 12. Three Defensemen, Kevin Hansen, Chris Bogas and Mike Burgoyne. Seven forwards, Chris Gignac, Konstantin Kalmikov, Peter Szabo, Mike Ramsay, Julian Smith, Greg Bullock and Adam Edinger. And now two goaltenders, including Rod Branch, whom are all heading to "The Garage."

The Mechanics open the 2005-06 season October 21st when they visit the Missouri River Otters and come join the Mechanics for opening weekend when they face off against the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday October 28th, and the Port Huron Flags on Saturday October 29th.

Every fan that enters the Garage on October 28th will receive a complimentary opening night collectible game puck sponsored by McDonald's. Opening night is also a youth hockey celebration as all youth teams are encouraged to come join the fun and participate in the first intermission team parade, and meet McDonald's own, Ronald McDonald!
