Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.-Rockford IceHogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson announced Wednesday that the United Hockey League club has signed rookie center Steve Yetman for the 2005-06 season. Adhering to club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The upcoming season will mark the St. John's, Newfoundland native's second at the professional level, but first full. Last season, the winger began the campaign with the Kansas City Outlaws (UHL), but returned to the junior level when he injured his shoulder after 36 games. The centerman's pro career started fast, as Yetman tallied a point in each of his first eight pro games (4g-9a-13pts), including two assists in each of his first four contests.
"Steve proved that he can play in this league last year," said Martinson. "He was leading the league in scoring for all rookies as a 19-year-old. Now he's matured, put on 10 pounds and we expect him to develop into a top playmaker."
Yetman's 36 games in Kansas City were very productive, as he tallied 11g-18a-29pts. His point total was pacing all UHL rookies before he returned to the Maritime Junior A Hockey League. Despite playing in less than half of the games last year, Yetman still ranked sixth on the Outlaws in scoring before returning to juniors.
The 6'1"Â, 210-pound rookie skated in the MJAHL for two seasons prior to last year. During the 2003-04 season, Yetman skated for the Yarmouth Mariners (MJAHL) and scored 25g-76a-101pts in 52 games. Yetman is also the sixth rookie to sign on with Rockford for the new season.
With Yetman, Rockford's training camp roster stands at 19. Other skaters on the roster include forwards Robin Big Snake, Chaz Johnson, Alex Kim, Vince Malts, Preston Mizzi, Jason Notermann, Olivier Proulx, Jason Ralph, Yannick Tifu and Chad Woollard, defenseman Ryan Carrigan, Matt Gens, Corey Hessler, Nathan Lutz and Steve Pelletier and goalies Michel Robinson and Ronnie Vogel.
