VISALIA The Visalia Oaks clobbered the Modesto Nuts Saturday night 15-6. Aneudi Cuevas had three hits for Visalia, including a two-run home run and a ninth inning grand slam. Joey Gomes had three hits for the Oaks and narrowly missed a third inning grand slam when his drive to center field bounced off the top of the center field fence and went for a triple. The Oaks pounded out 15 hits against four Modesto pitches. Utility man Simon Ferrer was warming up in the bullpen when Scott Beerer got the final out of the eighth inning.

The Oaks got ten runs and 11 hits off Modesto starter Aaron Marsden who was lifted in the fourth inning. Caleb Balbuena allowed one unearned run and Tomas Santiago pitched a perfect seventh inning. Scott Beerer gave up the grand slam to Cuevas in the ninth inning after a hit batter and a pair of walks.

Visalia starter Andrew Sonnanstine got the win for the Oaks. He went seven innings and was touched for a two-run single by Christian Colonel in the sixth inning for the only runs he would allow.

Joe Gaetti had a pair of hits for Modesto including his eight triple of the season. Gaetti has now reached base in a league-high 51 consecutive games.

Rick Guarno hit his first home run of the season for the Nuts, a three run shot in the ninth inning off relieve Joe Little.

Troy Tulowitzki had a hit in his return to the Modesto lineup after missing a month of the season with a quadriceps injury. Tulowitzki played shortstop and hit lead off.

The series concludes Sunday afternoon as the Nuts send Larry Robles to the mound against the Oaks' Jonathan Barrett. Game time at Recreation Park is 1:35 p.m.

Following the game the Nuts announced some roster moves to bolster the team for the playoffs, which begin Wednesday night against the Stockton Ports in Modesto. Jason Burch, who was having an outstanding season out of the Modesto bullpen, was placed on the disabled list with a groin strain. Burch has not pitched since August 18th.

In addition to the surprise activation of shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, the Colorado Rockies #1 draft pick in the 2005 draft, the Nuts announced that outfielder Matt Miller, the MVP of the South Atlantic League, who hit 30 home runs and drove in 100 runs for the Ashville Tourists, will be joining the team on Sunday. Also, to replace the injured Kyle Wilson who went down with a season ending hamstring injury last week, the Nuts will be adding catcher Neil Wilson (no relation) to the roster. Wilson was the #1 catcher at Ashville this season. In 81 games he hit .271 with ten home runs and 51 RBI's
