Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(Adelanto, CA) - Alex Frazier had three hits for the JetHawks on Saturday night. However, the High Desert Mavericks beat the JetHawks 11-10 in 11 innings at Mavericks Stadium. The loss eliminates the JetHawks from any chance of winning the second half title for the South Division.
The JetHawks jumped out to early lead as they scored five times on five hits in the top of the second inning. Brian Rose had the first of his two doubles to drive home a run. Danny Richar, who had five RBI in the first game of the series, hit a three-run home run. Erik Schindewolf also had an RBI single.
The home run by Richar was his 20th of the year.
The JetHawks added two more in the third, and once again the runs would come home on a long ball. After Alex Frazier reached on a single, Edgar Varela hit a ball over the center field fence to give the JetHawks a 7-0 lead.
With the score 7-2 in the fourth, Steve Garrabrants led of the inning and found his way to third base without the JetHawks putting a ball into play. The Lancaster center fielder walked, advanced to second on a throwing error, and went to third on a wild pitch. Richar then picked up his fourth RBI of the night singled him home to give the JetHawks an 8-2 lead.
Lancaster added two more runs in the fifth to open a 10-2 lead in the game. Jay Garthwaite doubled to open the inning and scored on a throwing error that allowed Neb Brown to reach. One out later, Brown also scored on a single by Schindewolf.
The High Desert offense came alive in the bottom of the fifth, as the Mavericks sent ten men to the plate and scored six times to cut the JetHawks lead to 10-8. Pete Maestrales and Bernard Stephens both hit home runs in the inning for High Desert.
The two home runs in the bottom of the fifth for the Mavericks gave them a league record tying 201 as a team this season.
The Mavericks added two more runs in the sixth to tie the game at 10-10, and then scored a run in the 11th to complete the comeback and earn a 11-10.
With the loss, the JetHawks now know they will host game-one of the best-of-three mini series on Wednesday night against the Mavericks at Clear Channel Stradium.
The series in High Desert concludes on Sunday evening at Mavericks Stadium. Garret Mock will make the start for the JetHawks in the 5:05 game.
