
David Matranga Joins Travs

Ray Winder Field, Little Rock, Arkansas - The Angels announced last night INF David Matranga is joining the Arkansas Travelers for the stretch run. Matranga, 28, comes to the Travs from Mesa, AZ, after rehabbing a strained right hamstring while playing for Class AAA Salt Lake. In 56 games with the Stingers, Matranga batted .239 with 3 home runs and 19 RBI. Matranga has displayed versatility throughout his career and can play any infield position.
The Angels signed Matranga during the off season as a minor league free agent. He spent the first seven years of his pro career with Houston as the Astros' 6th round pick in the 1998 draft from Pepperdine. During the 2001 season while playing second base for the Round Rock Express, Matranga batted .302 with 10 home runs and 60 RBI and was named to the league's post-season all star team. He has appeared in seven Major League games, including one game with the Angels this year (0-for-1).
