Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, Ga. - For the second consecutive start, GreenJackets starting pitcher Mike Musgrave was outstanding, going seven innings of shutout ball and allowing only four hits. Musgrave was helped by Brad Vericker, who accounted for all four runs driven in, Thursday at Lake Olmstead Stadium. With Kannapolis' victory over Charleston tonight, the GreenJackets are five games back of first place in the South Atlantic League's Southern Division.

The GreenJackets ended their 21 inning scoreless streak in the third inning. With one out, Mike Wagner was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a Brian Horwitz single. Simon Klink was also hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Vericker. Vericker smacked a line drive double to left, just out of the reach of the diving left fielder, Matt Miller. Vericker's seventh double of the season cleared the bases and gave the GreenJackets and Musgrave, a 3-0 lead.

In the sixth inning, Simon Klink hit his first of two doubles tonight over the head of right fielder Justin Nelson. With a runner in scoring position, Vericker once again did the job and drove in Klink with a single to right. His four runs batted in, gave Vericker 17 on the season.

Musgrave was in trouble just once tonight. Jonathan Herrera was hit by a pitch leading off the sixth. After stealing second, Herrera failed to advance when Chris Nelson grounded out to the pitcher. Following a walk to Joe Koshansky and a sharp single from Matt Miller, Justin Nelson hit into a 4-6-3 double play, ending the inning to a delighted Musgrave and Lake Olmstead crowd.

Asheville scored a run in the ninth on an error from Lisandro Disla before closer Brian Wilson relieved Tim Alvarez and pitched out of a first and third jam when he induced Jeff Dragicevich to ground out for the final out of the game and his 11th save this season.
