Modesto Nuts News Release

Kevin Mahar hit a two-out home run off Juan Morillo in the eighth inning Tuesday night as the Bakersfield Blaze beat the Modesto Nuts, 3-2. The home run was the first of the season for Mahar and came on an 0-2 count, as Morillo seemed to be putting the finishing touches of an outstanding debut performance for Modesto. The hard-throwing right-hander, who started the season at Ashville, had allowed two runs on four hits. One unearned run was the result of the hurler's own error, a bobble bouncer to the left of the mound in the fifth inning when Bakersfield scored their first two runs. Morillo struck out three and walked one.

Modesto scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead. John Danks gave up his only two walks of the game in front of a Seth Smith triple. Danks earned the win gong seven innings. He struck out seven, walked two and hit a batter. Chris Cordeiro pitched the ninth inning for the save and was helped by a diving stop of a line drive off the bat of Luis Guance with the tying run at third base to end the game.

The series concludes Wednesday morning as Modesto sends Aaron Marsden to the mound against the Blaze' A. J. Murray. Game time at John Thurman Field is 11 a.m.
