
JetHawks Play Long Ball, Beat Quakes 5-2

(Rancho Cucamonga, CA) â Edgar Varela hit his first home run of the year as the JetHawks downed the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 5-2 on Tuesday night at the Epicenter. With the win, the JetHawks improve to 20-19 on the year.
The JetHawks used a pair of solo home runs to jump out to a 2-0 lead over the first six innings of the game. Chris Carter gave the JetHawks a 1-0 lead when he hit his seventh home run of the year. Jeff Cook chipped in with his fourth home run this season leading off the top of the sixth.
Varela extended the lead to 4-0 in the seventh inning. After Danny Richar walked with one out, Varela hit a ball over the top of the right field foul pole for his first of the year.
Sam Smith tossed 5 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball to record his third win of the year. Dustin Glant, after suffering his first loss of the season on Monday, slammed the door in the ninth for his ninth save of the year.
The JetHawks plated their final run of the game in the eighth inning. Jay Garthwaite doubled home Alex Frazier who had walked earlier in the inning.
Miguel Montero doubled in the fourth for Lancaster to extend his hitting streak to a team-high 13 games.
The series with the Quakes continues on Wednesday night at the Epicenter. Chris Kinsey will make the start for the JetHawks and Chris Hunter will go to the mound for Rancho Cucamonga in the 7:15 P.M. game.
