Outlaws go out in style

April 10, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kansas City Outlaws News Release

They'll melt the ice tomorrow. By Tuesday morning, the Kemper Arena floor will be nothing but gray concrete. After today, no hockey will be played at Kemper Arena until November. But it's a safe bet that if a survey were taken of those in attendance at today's game, they'd give anything to have the next season start in just a few days instead of months.

With the UHL's best team in town for one last match, the Kansas City Outlaws came blazing out of the gates, exploding for 8 goals en route to an 8-1 thrashing of the Fort Wayne Komets.

In fitting style, Outlaws veteran left wing Jason Ruff kicked off scoring for the home team, notching his first of two goals today just 3 minutes into the first period. All told, Ruffer finished the day with 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists). For a while fans thought the Gladiator had picked up the hat trick, but his would-be third goal was eventually credited to defenseman Matthieu Descoteaux, with Ruff and Briane Thompson on the assists.

Besides Ruff's two goals, the Outlaws got a pair from Joe Seroski and solo goals from Dan Rohanna, Descoteaux, Mike Murray, and Nick Warriner. With Seroski's deuce, he finishes the season with 42 goals. Warriner added an assist for his first 2 points as a professional. Mark Lee, Murray, Derek Kern, Andrei Lupandin and Descoteaux all contributed multi-point games as well.

Goaltender Maxime Gingras stopped 28 of 29 shots and even picked up an assist on the final goal of the game.

Today's explosion- and the overall improved play over the past two months or so- indicate what should be a playoff season for next year's Outlaws.

The Outlaws thank all their sponsors, season ticket holders, media partners, and fans as we start preparing for next year.
