CHARLESTON, SC â He has three CDs out and will soon be touring Australia. At 29, he already has two soundtracks on his resume. And in September, he'll be performing at "The Joe."
Singer-songwriter Jack Johnson, one of America's up-and-coming artists, will appear at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on Sunday, September 4, according to Charleston RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols.
"We are very excited about hosting this concert," says Echols. "Riley Park is a beautiful venue, and it works quite well for concerts. Jack Johnson is a tremendous entertainer and has a strong following. We expect this show will be one of the best ever at Riley Park."
A former professional surfer, Johnson's first two CDs, "On and On" and "Brushfire Fairytales," have sold more than a million copies each. His third, entitled "In Between Dreams," was released on March 1 and has received outstanding reviews. He has also performed the soundtracks for the films "Thicker Than Water" and "September Sessions."
Jeff Vrabel of Billboard.Biz writes: "Dave Matthews may be the world's most unassuming rock star, but he's positively Axl Rose compared to Jack Johnson. With his T-shirt-and-sandals fashion sense and chilled-to-the-point-of-absurdity demeanor, the Hawaiian-born singer/songwriter could probably walk into Borders tomorrow, purchase 40 copies of his own CD and not get a second look for the counter girl."
Tickets for the Jack Johnson concert are $35 plus a service charge and are now on sale at the RiverDogs Box Office. Tickets may also be secured by phoning the RiverDogs at 843/577-DOGS (3647) or on-line at www.etix.com.
