Sound Tigers Sign Jeff Szwez

BRIDGEPORT, CT – The American Hockey League’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders, have announced the signing of right wing Jeff Szwez to a professional tryout contract. Szwez joins the Sound Tigers from the ECHL’s Dayton Bombers and is expected to be available for tomorrow’s 7:05 p.m. game against the Norfolk Admirals at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island.

Szwez, 23, posted eight goals, five assists, 13 points and 20 penalty minutes in 18 ECHL games with Dayton, as well as 16 goals, 12 assists, 28 points and 53 penalty minutes in 41 games with the ECHLÂ’s Pee Dee Pride this season. The 6Â’3Â’Â’ 200-pound native of Etobicoke, Ontario also split last season between the Bombers and the Pride. Szwez spent most of his rookie season, 2002-03, with the ECHLÂ’s Augusta Lynx but did skate in nine AHL games with the Binghamton Senators that year notching a goal and five penalty minutes. He played junior hockey with the Ontario Hockey LeagueÂ’s Kitchener Rangers in 2001-02.
