New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats rallied for five runs on a pair of two-run home runs and a Gil Velazquez throwing error in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Binghamton Mets 6-5 in front of a sell-out crowd of 4,115 at Gill Stadium Saturday night.

New Hampshire (68-52) entered the bottom of the ninth inning trailing 5-1 before coming from behind to beat Binghamton (70-50) in their final at-bat for the second straight night. John-Ford Griffin and Justin Singleton both launched two-run homers against losing pitcher Royce Ring (1-1) in the ninth inning to tie the game 5-5.

Paul Chiaffredo singled and was sacrificed to second base by Mike Snyder. Victor Valencia was intentionally walked to bring up Tyrell Godwin. Godwin grounded to Velazquez at short, whose throw to third base went wide of the bag and into foul territory, allowing Chiaffredo to jog home with the winning run.

Right-hander Travis Thompson (3-3) struck out two batters in the ninth inning to record the win.

Both starting pitchers had stellar outings. New Hampshire's Francisco Rosario allowed three runs on six hits in a season-high six innings, setting a franchise record with 10 strikeouts.

Binghamton starter Jason Scobie worked six perfect innings before yielding Dominic Rich's lead-off single in the seventh. Scobie departed after seven and two-thirds innings, allowing a run on four hits.

Chase Lambin's two-run home run off Ryan Houston in the top of the ninth inning gave the Mets a 5-1 lead, but Binghamton had its lead over New Hampshire trimmed to two games in the Eastern League's Northern Division standings.

The Fisher Cats and Mets wrap up their three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm. New Hampshire sends right-hander Chris Baker (3-1, 3.48) against Binghamton righty Orlando Roman (1-0, 4.91). Coverage begins at 12:45pm on the WKXL Fisher Cats Radio Network, available on-line at www.fishercatsradio.com.
