(Norwich, Conn.) – The Norwich Navigators hosted the 4th Annual Tater's Charities Celebrity Golf Tournament at River Ridge Golf Course in Griswold yesterday, raising nearly $10,000 for the non-profit organization which assists needy and underprivileged children in Eastern Connecticut.

"This was a fun way to raise money for Tater's Charities and give back to our community here in Eastern Connecticut," said Navigators General Manager Keith Hallal. "Special thanks to Tom Hinsch, Alyssa Gerlando, and our sponsors who made this happen and especially to the celebrities and our players who took time out of their busy schedule to make this a successful event."

Former Boston Red Sox catcher and color announcer Bob Montgomery won the tournament with a first place score of 70. Other celebrities who participated include legendary Red Sox slugger Jim Rice and pitcher Bill Lee, Boston Bruin and Harford Whaler great John McKenzie, and Fox 61 sports anchor Rich Coppola.

Several pro golfers, including Jimmy Jones, Kyle Gallo, Cory Harris, Justin Goodhue, and Eric Egloff played in the tournament. Several Navigators players, including Mike Cervenak, Pat Misch, Matt Cain, Doug Clark, and Matt Palmer, also participated.

Each celebrity was paired with a foursome of players, who had the opportunity to participate in other contests at different holes. Hole # 3 was the longest drive contest, which Cain won for celebrities and Jim Quiqley took as a player. Montgomery won the closest-to-the-pin contest on Hole #17 with a distance of 3'8". Jim Reily won it as a player, coming within 9'8" of the pin.
