Lake County Captains News Release
Eastlake, OHâ The Lake County Captains have announced that world-renowned skydiver Dana Bowman will be parachuting into Eastlake Ballpark on Sunday afternoon when the Captains host the Delmarva Shorebirds at 2:05 P.M.
Bowman, a retired member of the U.S. Army's Golden Knights elite parachute team, lost both of his legs in a 1994 skydiving accident. Nine months later, he returned to active duty with the Golden Knights, becoming the first double-amputee to re-enlist in the U.S. Army. Bowman re-enlisted in the Army airborne style, skydiving with his commander into the ceremony. This achievement is just one example of Bowman's many successes under adverse circumstances.
After retiring from the service in 1996, Bowman earned a commercial aviation degree from the University of North Dakota, and currently flies multi-engine aircraft, helicopters and seaplanes. He also began a second career as a motivational speaker.
Bowman has given hundreds of speeches around the world, bringing his motto "Never Quit" to thousands of individuals. He often skydives into his events. He also operates the Dana Bowman Limb Bank Foundation, which collects used prosthetic limbs and parts to distribute within foreign countries.
During Sunday's Captains game, Bowman will parachute into the stadium and deliver the game ball to Captains starter Nick Pesco. He will then be available to meet and talk with fans on the concourse during the game.
