Albany Firebirds News Release

Albany, N.Y., July 6, 2004 – The Albany Conquest of arenafootball2 announced today that their quarterback D. Bryant will have a tryout with the Buffalo Bills on Thursday morning.

"This is tremendous opportunity for D. and he certainly deserves it," said Albany Conquest Head Coach Rick Buffington. "If Buffalo likes what they see they could sign him in the near future. D. will fly out from Buffalo to Green Bay to play in our game on Friday night against the Blizzard. He will not miss any practices this week since Thursday is a travel day for us."

Bryant took over as the starting quarterback for Albany on May 8 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers leading the Conquest to a 52-45 win, which was also their first victory of the season. Since Bryant assumed the role as starter he has led Albany to a 5-3 record after the team had begun the season 0-4.

Bryant has twice earned Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game honors this season, first, in the win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and second, in Albany's most recent game, a 59-26 win over the Green Bay Blizzard on June 25.

Bryant is 128-of-236 passing for 1,995 yards with 33 TD passes and eight interceptions this season. He has also run for six touchdowns.

Bryant is no stranger to NFL tryouts as he was one of just 12 quarterbacks invited to the 2003 NFL scouting combine.

The Albany Conquest's next game is this Friday evening against the Green Bay Blizzard at 8:30 p.m. EST at The Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis. The game can be heard live on 104.5 The Buzz.

Albany's next home game is on July 23 when the Conquest will battle the Manchester Wolves at 7 p.m. at Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y. America's # 1 country music duo Montgomery Gentry will perform a full concert following the game. Albany Conquest notes:

OL/DL Dave Mahoney had successful surgery on his ankle following an injury he suffered in Albany's 59-26 win over the Green Bay Blizzard on June 25. Mahoney, who broke his ankle in the game, went into surgery the next day and did a team community appearance visiting children on June 28 at Watervliet Civic Center in Watervliet, N.Y. Mahoney has been placed on long-term injured reserve for the remainder of season.

OL/DL Mike Laroche, a product of the University at Albany, has been activated from short-term injured reserve. Laroche has played in seven games for the Conquest this season.
