Georgia Force News Release

ATLANTA, GA. – As the Georgia Force prepare for their Mother’s Day match-up with the Columbus Destroyers on Sunday, May 9th, the team announced several roster moves today including the signing of two players with a long history with the Force. The Force have reached contract agreements with Defensive Specialist Cliff Green and Offensive/ Defensive Lineman Oscar Sturgis. To make room on the 24-man active roster, the club waived Offensive/ Defensive Lineman Nikia Adderson and placed Quarterback Chris Hixson on Injured Reserve.

“When I look at our roster, we are a very young team,” explained Interim Head Coach Bob Kronenberg. “Young not necessarily in age, but in terms of Arena Football experience. Being able to add players with the talent level and game experience that both Cliff and Oscar have is going to help this team a lot on the field and in the locker room.”

GREEN (5-9, 190, Tennessee State) began the season with the Force on Injured Reserve recovering from an Achilles injury that he suffered in Georgia’s third game of the 2003 season. He played in one game with the Force this year at Los Angeles and recorded 4.5 tackles and two pass break-ups. Green was listed as Inactive for the next two games before being released on March 15th. A six-year veteran, he is one of the league’s top defensive players having a career season with the Force in 2002 in which he garnered AFL Defensive Player of the Month for June. Green hails from Decatur, Georgia and attended Southwest Dekalb High School.

STURGIS (6-5, 280, North Carolina) is a six-year AFL veteran who has played in 24 games with the Force over the 2002 and 2003 seasons. A former seventh round selection by the Dallas Cowboys in 1995, he began his Arena Football career in 1998 with the Arizona Rattlers. After four seasons in Arizona, Sturgis signed with Georgia as a free agent in 2002. He finished the 2003 season playing two games with the Los Angeles Avengers in 2003 after being released from the Force in April. For his career, Sturgis has tallied 41 tackles and nine receptions for 89 yards.

Hixson has played in seven games this season serving primarily as the team’s holder on special teams. He has seen action under center in three of those contests completing 15-of-21 passes for 121 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. Adderson, who has played in eight games this season, had recorded 7.5 tackles, two sacks and one interception on defense and offensively hauled in one reception for 20 yards and a touchdown.

Coming off their BYE week, the Georgia Force return to action as they head to Columbus, Ohio to meet the Destroyers on Sunday, May 9th in Nationwide Arena at 3:00 p.m. A network-TV sport, the AFL celebrates its 2nd season on NBC in 2004.
