Chicago Bandits News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - Chicago Bandits GM, Aaron M. Moore, announced today that the team has agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with infielder Danielle Zymkowitz for the upcoming 2016 season.
Zymkowitz, who will be entering her sixth season in a Bandits uniform, originally joined the team by way of open tryouts prior to the 2011 season. After serving in a platoon role her first three seasons in Chicago, Zymkowitz earned the starting spot at second base in 2014 and went on to enjoy the best season of her career.
"As an organization we are beyond thrilled with the contract extension of Z," said Moore. "She has been one of the most important pieces to our recent success, both on and off the field, and she's someone we definitely wanted to return.
"Danielle is a special young lady that gets everything this team and league are about. She is 100% committed to our growth, our success in the community and our success on the field. She's one of the most top-notch people in the NPF and she also does a fine job at second base. We're looking forward to having her for 2016."
The West Hills, Calif. native started all 48 games during the 2015 season and she recorded a .222 batting average with 30 hits, 15 runs scored and 11 RBIs, while finishing second on the team with eight stolen bases. The three-time University of Illinois Gold Glove winner posted 79 assists, which were good for third overall on the Bandits and her 97 putouts placed her at fourth overall.
"For me, every summer brings a new family of teammates and a new goal to accomplish," said Zymkowitz. "I can't wait for the season as I cherish every time I put on my Bandits uniform."
Zymkowitz, 26, is currently serving in her second season as an assistant coach at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio under former Bandits catcher, Kristen Butler.
"Thank you to the Bandits organization for giving me another opportunity to follow my dreams and thank you to those that have paved the way for me to play this sport at a professional level," continued Zymkowitz.
The defense of the Cowles Cup begins on Thursday, June 2 when the Bandits host the Scrap Yard Dawgs at the Ballpark at Rosemont for the 2016 home opener. Single-game tickets for all 2016 home games, including the home opener, will go on sale Monday, February 8 at 10 a.m.
