Chicago Bandits News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Chicago Bandits have agreed to terms with RHP Coley Ries on a one-year contract for the 2020 NPF season, team officials announced Monday afternoon.
"I am so excited to be coming back to Chicago and so grateful for the coaches and front office for giving me the opportunity," Ries said in a statement. "There is nothing better than being a part of Bandit Nation and I can't wait to put on that uniform again!"
Going into her fourth year in the NPF, Ries returns to Rosemont for a second stint with the Bandits after being traded to the Aussie Peppers in 2019. In seven starts and 18 appearances with the Bandits in 2018, she notched 22 strikeouts, six wins and one save over 38.1 innings pitched, good for an ERA of 1.83.
"We're extremely excited to have Coley back with us in Rosemont," Bandits AGM Jourdan Skirha said. "She's a great addition to our bullpen and we can't wait to see her back home in the circle at Parkway Bank Sports Complex."
Prior to her professional career, Ries attended and played for Minnesota State University - Mankato. With the Mavericks, she earned the honors of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the year three times. In five seasons, Ries made 178 appearances in the circle and is Minnesota State's all-time leader in wins (119), strikeouts (1,481) and innings pitched (999.1), good for a career ERA of 1.60. Among those wins are 39 shutouts and 104 complete games, putting her second at MSU in both statistics.
Her final year with MSU wrapped her college career up nicely, earning a myriad of honors including NFCA Player of the Year, D2CCA Pitcher of the Year, and became the fourth Maverick to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American honors. Ries also went 5-0 over 35 innings and 5 consecutive days at the 2017 NCAA Championship, boasting a 1.20 ERA with 50 strikeouts, earning the tournament's Most Outstanding Player award and leading her team to the NCAA Division II National Championship.
Ries will make her return to Rosemont this summer when the Bandits kick off the 2020 NPF Season.
