New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The Fresno Grizzlies scored in each of the first three innings, then tacked on four runs in the ninth en route to a 7-1 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Wednesday night.

It marked the second consecutive night the Grizzlies scored four times in the ninth inning.

On Wednesday, two runs were all Madison Bumgarner (2-1) would need, as Fresno's starter pitched six innings and yielded just one run while scattering seven hits. He struck out five and walked none.

Ryan Tucker (0-4) took the loss for New Orleans, surrendering three runs (two earned) and seven hits in five innings.

The Zephyrs had a chance to cut Fresno's 3-1 lead in half in the fifth inning, when Brad Davis doubled to lead off the inning. Ryan Klosterman then lifted a fly ball down the left field line that landed fair, but Davis got a late jump from second and was thrown out at the plate.

The Z's did not advance a runner past second base the rest of the game.

Davis led the Zephyrs' nine-hit attack, going 3-for-4, including his team-leading eighth double.

The series continues Thursday night at 7:00 p.m., as right-handers Brian Lawrence (2-2, 4.12) and Eric Hacker (5-1, 2.25) oppose one another.
